Senior Infrastructure Engineer
Some people accept the internet as it is. We see what it could be.
At bunny.net, we don’t wait for change. We make it happen. You won’t find layers of red tape or play-it-safe thinking here. You’ll find people who move quickly, take ownership, and push ideas all the way to the edge. Literally.
You’ll build things that solve actual problems, not add to them.
We’re not perfect, and we don’t pretend to be. But we’re always improving. We’re looking for people who want to do the same, who take pride in their work, and aren’t afraid to challenge what’s possible.
Because everyone deserves a better internet. And we’re here to help it hop faster.
Senior Infrastructure Engineer
Our network doesn’t just move fast, it hops. We handle millions of requests every second across 120+ PoPs on six continents, powering not just a lightning-fast CDN, but also a global Edge Computing platform, Streaming services, and petabyte-scale Storage.
As our footprint expands, so does the challenge, and the fun. That’s where you come in.
As a Senior Infrastructure Engineer, you’ll design and shape the global infrastructure that makes bunny.net hop. You’ll work with bare metal and virtual servers, core internal applications like databases and internal tools, and the supporting infrastructure that ties it all together. You’ll have the autonomy to set the scope and delivery of your projects, but you’ll also thrive in collaboration, sharing knowledge, providing feedback, and teaming up to tackle complex challenges.
Your work will reduce busywork, speed up global deployments, and strengthen how bunny.net runs at every level.
What will you do?
- Run and expand our hybrid infrastructure across 120+ PoPs, keeping it fast, reliable, and resilient
- Solve complex challenges in large-scale distributed systems and networking stacks
- Automate the boring stuff, reducing toil and streamlining server setup worldwide
- Level up our monitoring game with meaningful metrics, alerts, and dashboards that keep us ahead of issues
- Collaborate across teams to support new products, features, and big ideas with infrastructure expertise
- Own the systems you build, participating in a follow-the-sun on-call rotation to keep everything performing at its best
- Create tools and pipelines that make the team more efficient and the platform more powerful
What will you bring?
- Proven experience running large-scale, multi-regional Linux-based hybrid infrastructures
- Strong understanding of core internet building blocks like DNS, HTTP, and TLS (you’ve tinkered with things like nginx, TLS ciphers, and HTTP/2 before)
- Bare-metal expertise, from setup and operation to securing and debugging servers, even if they’re halfway across the globe
- A growth mindset with eagerness to learn, adapt, and shape the future of a fast-moving technical stack, especially with a focus on reliability
- A love for automation and Infrastructure-as-Code to eliminate repetitive work
- Hands-on experience with monitoring systems like metrics, alerts, logs, and runbooks (we run our own Prometheus exporters, craft our own Grafana dashboards, and write the alerts we respond to)
- Solid networking skills, VLANs, routing, TCP/IP, DHCP, IPv6 all feel familiar to you
- Experience running SQL/NoSQL databases like MariaDB, Elasticsearch, Redis, or Cassandra
- Ability to write tools and scripts in Bash, Python, or Go
What will make us extra happy?
- Experience with CDNs, edge computing, streaming platforms, or object storage projects
- A passion for observability, with a good understanding of how systems behave as a whole, not just checking if they’re “healthy”
- Familiarity with compliance frameworks and using them to introduce meaningful, lasting improvements
- Hands-on involvement in network design, implementation, and monitoring (BGP, Spine-Leaf, Anycast are all in your vocabulary)
- Deep experience tuning and scaling databases such as MariaDB or Cassandra in high-traffic environments.
- Experience in Disaster Recovery or Business Continuity Planning (and ready to help shape bunny.net’s DR strategy)
- Skills in hardware performance tuning, from NIC queues to flamegraphs and performance dashboards
Where should you be located?
Fully remote, based in New Zealand or Australia — work from where you hop best in these regions.
